Assalamu Alaikum Dear Parents,

-NO School (PD Days): Insha Allah, there will be NO school for students on Monday November 1 and Tuesday November 2 due to the Professional Development Days (PDD).

-Start of 2nd Quarter: The 2nd quarter will start Wednesday November 3rd.

-Tutoring Program: Insha Allah, the tutoring program (during school and after school) will start on the first week of November for those students who are eligible through Title I & III State funds. Letters were already sent to the parents of eligible students last week. If you have any questions, you can contact the assistant principal, Mrs Sankari.

-Parent-Teacher Conference: Insha Allah, our first parent-teacher conference is going to be on Friday November 12. The conference will be virtual like last year from 2:00 pm-6:00 pm. On that day, the students will have a half day school, i.e. the student's dismissal is at 12:00 pm.

-Re-Accreditation (December 6 & 7): Every five years Genesee Academy goes through a re-accreditation process by Cognia (previousl AdvancEd-the accrediting organization). During the process a committee from Cognia interviews board members, adminsitration, teachers, some parents and students. Also, the committee inspects the required documents which show that Genesse Academy meets the standards and adheres to its mission statement. Therefore, a survey will be emailed to the parents soon to get the parents' feedback as part of this process.

This is a reminder that tomorrow Friday October 29 is a half day school, i.e. the students' dismissal is at 12:00 pm. Please, make sure to pick up your child on time. Also, tomorrow will be a dress down for the students. Jazakum Allah Khairan.

Alhamdulillah! I am so excited to announce that we will have a yearbook for this school year(2021-2022)! Insha Allah, we will work on getting as many great photos of the students taken outside, so they will not have to have their mask on. The prices for the yearbook are as follows:

October 11th to October 29th 2021                  $25 (with four free icons with purchase of personalization)

October 30th 2021 to January 28th 2022                  $30

-Dress Down: Since next Friday October 29 is the last Friday of the month, the students will be having a dress down day on that day. The students should still adhere to the school Islamic dress code. Last dress down, the administration approached some students and their parents for violating the dress code. We hope that this time, the adminsitration does not resort to hold students in the office until their parents bring them the proper required dress.

-End of 1st Quarter/Early Dismissal: Insha Allah, the end of the first quarter will be Friday October 29. On that day, the students will have early dismissal, i.e. the dismissal will be at 12:00 pm. Please, make sure to pick up your child on time.

-Gradelink: This is a reminder that the parents can monitor their child's academic progress through gradelink. Gradelink is a good tool to use to check if your chid is missing assignments, especially that there are two weeks left for the end of the 1st quarter.

-6th-10th Grade Workshop: Last Thursday, the school conducted a workshop for the 6th-10th grade students about the importance of IB-MYP program and requirements, academic dishonesty (such as cheating, plagiarism, and collusion), and Islamic character/behavior. In order to have an Islamic environment conducive to learning, we wanted to make it clear to the students at the beginning of the school year that we take academic dishonesty and inapproriate behavior/conduct seriously. We appreciate the parents' involvment in making these concepts clear to their children as well.

-Water Bottles: Lately, unfortunately it seems that some parents/students are relying on the school to provid their children with water bottles on a daily basis. We see some children are coming to school with no water bottles everyday. This in turn led the office to ran out of water bottles and to not be able to provide water to those students who really forgot on occasions. The school's concern is not only about the cost of the water but more importantly is about not having the manpower to go and get water boxes every two days due to the increase of water bottles consumption. We need parents' cooperation in making sure to send water bottles with their children (including the high school students). The water bottles in the scool office are for those students who occasionally forget to get their water bottles.

-Scantron Testing: Insha Allah, the fall Scantron testing will continue next week for the elementary students after we finished the ones for the middle school last week. Elementary students' Parents, if you can send your children with their prsonal headphones for the testing, that will be safer. We will let you know when the results will be availble to the parents soon.

-NMSQT Test: Insha Allah, the 11th grade students will be having the NMSQT at Genesee Academy this Wednesday October 13. This test will qualify the students to participate in the NMS (National Merit Scholarship). For more information about the NMS, please, click on the link below:

Also, on that date the SAT testing will be offered at GA for those 12th grade students who are interested in re-taking the SAT.
11th and 12th grade students will go home after finishing the test (around 12:30 pm)

open positions at genesee academy

Genesee Academy is interviewing and looking for candidates for the following positions:

1) Part-Time Arabic Teachers: The candidate should have some experience in teaching Arabic, is willing to learn, is professional, and has good communication skills.

2) Part-Time Front Office Assistant: The candidate should speak English fluently, has good communications skills, is a fast learner, should understand the meaning of confidentiality, has a multi-task skill, and has some front office experience.

3) Classroom Substitutes: The candidate should have good communication skills, should be patient, will respect confidentiality, should have some teaching or substituting experience in school environment, and should like to work with kids.

Good news: Congratulations!

Congratulations to our 12th grade student, Naima Cleveland, who is one of 32,000 students from across the country to earn academic honors from the College Board’s National Recognition Programs! These National Recognition Programs grant underrepresented students with academic honors that can be included on college and scholarship applications and connect students with universities across the country, helping them stand out during the admissions process. Colleges and scholarship programs use these honors to identify students from underrepresented groups through College Board’s Student Search Service.

Naima earned this recognition by excelling on their PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, or AP Exams and in their classrooms. Students who may be eligible have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have excelled on the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10, or earned a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP Exams; and are African American or Black, Hispanic American or Latinx, Indigenous, and/or attend school in a rural area or small town. Eligible students are invited to apply during their sophomore or junior year, and are awarded at the beginning of the next school year.

-Scantron Testing: Insha Allah, the fall Scantron testing will start on the first week of October. Scantron testing is an online adaptive test purchased by GA to administer to kg-8th grades. The test is administered to the students in fall and spring to measure the students' academic growth of English, Math, and Science.

-NMSQT Test: Insha Allah, the 11th grade students will be having the NMSQT at Genesee Academy on Wednesday October 13. This test will qualify the students to participate in the NMS (National Merit Scholarship). For more information about the NMS, please, click on the link below:
