With school returning back to full time in person, Br. Tibi and school administration has recommended that we should start bringing back some of the activities such as PTO and others that were suspended because of virtual schooling. As explained in attached PTO By-Laws PTO plays the following role in Genesee academy. here is a short overview from the attached by-laws.
The organization is to be known as the Genesee Academy Parent Teacher Organization (GA-PTO). The PTO is established under the non-profit/tax exempt status of Genesee Academy.
The GA-PTO shall provide service for student activities and school functions; engage in
fundraising projects; and encourage parent, teacher and community involvement.
This organization shall neither seek to direct the administrative activities of the school nor control its policies. The proper avenues for this are directly with Administrative staff and, in the case of major policy decisions, the GA Board of Directors.
MEMBERSHIP AND VOTING ELIGIBILITY:
A. The GA PTO shall be comprised of parents and guardians of students currently attending Genesee Academy, as well as faculty, staff and school administration.
B. Voting privileges are extended to all Parents of GA, one vote per household.
C. Voting will be conducted electronically (exceptions for write-in votes will be extended for those who cannot vote electronically) over several days to maximize participation.
D. A three person election committee comprising of GA Administration, staff and Board
members will be formed prior to the election process. This committee will be responsible to publish the election timeline, communicate the election process to Parents, receive and verify nominations, conduct electronic/write-in voting and communication results. This committee will also be responsible to oversee the elections of Executive committee office holders.
E. No dues shall be collected
PTO election process can take several weeks therefore it is a good start to initiate the process to have a PTO in place before the start of next school year. This email is a heads-up for interested parents that soon we will be setting up and rolling out the election process and timeline.
I am attaching the PO ByLaws that are established for Genesee Academy, these will be a good start for interested parents to become more knowledgeable of Genesee Academy's PTO structure and roles.
The PTO election process is as follows:
1. Online nomination of PTO candidates - 7 to 10 days
2. Get nominationtion acceptance from all nominees to be included on ballot - 5 to 7 days
3. Online ballot created and voting process - 7 days
4. Counting of votes and get acceptance from winners - 2-3 days
5. Communicate list of winners to the community.
Our Goal is to have the PTO in place and have their kick-off meeting before the end of school year.
