As you are likely aware, there was a tragic and deadly shooting Tuesday, May 24, at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. We are deeply saddened by this heartbreaking news. Our hearts are with all the families affected by this tragedy. Tragic events like this one bring up a broad range of emotions for people. I am sure some of you have heard/noticed from your child some alarming signs of anxiety, worry, or fear. I have attached a couple of articles and one link to help you as a parent to deal with any of the above signs should arise from your child. Also, I asked my staff to pay attention to any signs they might see in their students in response to the shooting news, and to deal with these signs properly. Alhamdulillah, after we put our trust in Allah, we reinforce the proper security measures at school. To do so, we need the parents’ help to reiterate our measures with their children. Alhamdulillah, we have outside and inside cameras at school, keep the school doors closed during the school functioning hours, carry walkie talkies when we are outside for recess, do the state required emergency drills, and can see the person through a camera before allow him/her to enter the building. Again, we pray and ask Allah to protect and keep our children and school safe. Note: I know that I should have sent this email yesterday but due to the sickness and many things going on at school, I was not able to do so. Thank you for your understanding. To register your child and for more details, please click on the link below: https://www.gaflint.org/summer-camp-program.html Due to the increased number of covid/flu cases among staff and students, the board decided to close GA this Friday May 13 for a school deep cleaning (no school for staff and students). Also, the mask wearing mandate will be extended another week,i.e. the week of May 16. The school will resume on Monday May 16 as usual. In addition, if you or your child is sick, please do not send your child to school and call the school to let us know. We appreciate your cooperation in making our school environment safe.
Due to the increased covid/flu cases, the Quran Competition Award Ceremony that was scheduled for this Saturday May 14 will be postponed to a later date and it will be virtual.
As you might be aware that many kids and adults are getting sick lately due to cold, flu, and other related sikcnesses. Therefore, after consulting with the board, Genesee Academy will reinstate the mandatory mask wearing to all staff, students (all grades), and other adults who work with the kids in the building starting tomorrow Tuesday May 10 till the end of the week. Insha Allah, the school administration will monitor the situation and decide (with the approval of the board) if the mask wearing mandate will be extended another week by the end of this week. In addition, I would like to remind the parents that if your child is sick, please do not send him/her to school. I know that the symptoms of covid and flu are similar in many ways, therefore, the school would recommend the following:
-If your child is sick, please check with your child's doctor to see if it is a flu or covid. -Contact the school to let us know. I attached the CDC protocols for covid isolation/quarantine for you to review. If you have any questions or not sure what to do, please call the school, and we will do our best to help you, Insha Allah. Jazakum Allah Khairan for your understanding and cooperation. |
